Everything is energy. Everything is matter and matter is energy. Energy is the basis of material reality. Every type of particle is conceived of as a quantum vibration in a field: Electrons are vibrations in electron fields, protons vibrate in a proton field, and so on. Everything is energy, and everything is connected to everything else through fields. At its most elementary level, matter does not show up as isolated little particles; all matter is essentially one and indivisible, a connected, dynamic tissue of vibrating fields of energy. The subtle energy that penetrates all matter (yes all. Your chair, your phone, a bag of cheetos, a house plant, you), which is discussed in spiritual and scientific contexts in many cultures, is the “source”, or “life energy”- scientifically, zero-point energy.
If everything is energy, then everything has a vibration. Vibrations occur as frequencies depending on how high or low they vibrate. Everything vibrates at a frequency, even food and thoughts. Everything. Even stationary objects. Also, when two things resonate long enough together with their own independent frequencies, they can sync up, vibrating together at the same frequency. How empathetic of inanimate unconscious entities!
Thoughts and emotions vibrate at a higher frequency than most matter, which is why they can’t be seen or touched, and frequencies can affect your mood in turn. The lower frequencies are typically that of anger, sadness, guilt, jealousy and greed, and higher frequency moods are happiness, joy, peace, abundance, contentment, and safety.
If you’re hanging out with a friend who’s feeling poorly and pretty negative, they are giving off a fairly low vibrational frequency, which can rub off on you without either of you realizing it. This is different than if you are with someone with a negative outlook a lot of the time, then you picking up on their habits and moods can be habitual, due to being constantly with the person. If strong enough, a low vibration can be picked up from someone in passing, taken on with no prior conditioning to feelings of anger or frustration in that moment.
Going a little deeper in, we can think of the interactions we complete throughout our days, even lives. What products do you use? What music do you listen to? What food do you eat? What kind of entertainment do you watch? Do you use a lot of handmade goods, second hand goods, or factory imported goods? Did you know that all of these are consumption transactions, and you’re consuming the energy that is being given off by what you are interacting with?
We take on that which we take part in. Animal meat and animal discharge (milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.) are low vibrational foods. If an animal went through pain, stress, fear or trauma in the process of food preparation or slaughter then that negative energy it held would be transferred to the consumer. This doesnt mean if you eat pork you will feel the fear of a pig moments before its death, or that you’ll be stressed out a lot more all of a sudden, but the truth of the matter is that animals go through mental and physical torture in factory farms. When in a stressful situation, chemicals and hormones are released, muscles tighten and change, deteriorating the meat and lowering it’s frequency. Fatigue, impotence, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, diabetes and colon diseases are associated with eating low quality and “stressed out” animal meat.
This is the same with the free trade market – products made under oppressive states in hard and unfair labour or in sweatshops will vibrate at a lower frequency because of the conditions in which the products were made and the circumstance of the producers. The negativity of the collective situational trauma is passed on to the products of labour.
If you have a well developed emotional intelligence, chances are that you have or can feel empathy to a varying degree, and pick up on the moods of others, feeling what they feel. Taking on their energy. It might be a good idea to protect yourself and your energy from absorbing too much negativity by using affirmations to remain self aware and grounded. This way you can interact with others and even help them without hurting yourself in the process.
Being in an environment that boosts you up, surrounded by people and elements that are positive or high vibrational can keep you buzzing on a plane of joy or contentment, making things a little easier, but that doesnt mean hanging out with overly positive people or eating raw or generally consuming more wholesome content will be the saving grace for your mood. If you’re open to different factors of consumption in your life having an effect on you, then you will be more susceptible to these changes. Be there mentally with what you are energetically tangling yourself with and be aware of your experiences and interactions – this practise can help you be more in touch and thus in control with what kinds of “vibes” you allow into your bubble.
